Deployment of Eastern Corridor Fiber Project Begins

Eastern Corridor Fiber Optic Project in Ghana has commenced its deployment. The cost of deployment is estimated at more than 45 million US dollars. The project was launched at the Ho town in the Volta region. 

Eastern Corridor Fiber Optic network will run through 120 communities. The length of the network would be around 800 kilometers. This fiber optic network will provide access to faster internet services to the subscribers. Also, the fiber network will enable e-governance. 

 Ho is a town and the capital of Ho Municipal District and the Volta Region of Ghana. Ho lies between Mount Adaklu and Mount Galenukui (Togo Atakora Range), and is home to a museum, a cathedral and a large prison. Ho has a settlement population of more than 96,000 people.

Jefferson City Council Approves Fiber Optic Project

Jefferson City Council has approved a proposal to its town facilities with next generation networks. The council intends to speed up the governance process utilizing the latest available telecommunication technologies to interconnect offices and related facilities. The council also accepted a proposal to fund US$150,000 for the proposed fiber optic network.

Jefferson City is the capital of the U.S. state of Missouri and the county seat of Cole County and is the principal city of the Jefferson City metropolitan area, which encompasses the entirety of both counties. It is the 15th largest city in Missouri with a population of more than 43,079.

Myanmar Railways Invites Tender for Maintenance of Fiber Networks

The Ministry of Rail Transportation in Myanmar plans for maintenance of its fiber optic cable networks connecting Yangon and Mandalay. Myanmar Railways had issued a tender inviting interested parties.

Both local and foreign companies can participate in the tender. The maintenance work includes checking the health of existing fiber optic cables. The fiber optic cables incorporated single mode optical fibers complying with ITU-T recommendation G.652. The conventional single mode fibers utilized for long haul networks were complying with category B. Now a days majority of Unshifted single mode fibers used in telecom cables are G.652.D fibers

Ministry of Railways installed around 530 kilometers of single mode optical cables from Yangon to Mandalay. Documents for the tender can be received from Railway department's office in Yangon. The tender in original and duplicate copies should be submitted to the Deputy General Manager, Supply Department, Myanmar Railways, Corner of Theinbyu and Merchant street, Botahtaung township, Yangon by 2 p.m, Tuesday, May 27. The applicant must also submit an electronic copy of the tender. Submission via email will not be entertained.

Yemen Plans for a Fiber Optic Network Worth USD 25

Yemen's Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Technology is in talks with the World Bank to get a loan for implementing the fiber optic project in Yemen. The project cost is estimated at around US$250 million. 

Yemen is lagging behind its neighboring countries in the Middle East Asia for deployment of fiber optic networks. It's neighboring countries such as Saudi Arabia and Oman are progressing well with optical communication links. In both these countries, fiber optic broadband deployments are also going on. Yemen needs to build required fiber optic backbone networks to reach to the level of its neighbors. The ministry expects that some positive results to be issued by the Bank on this topic within the next month.

The minister pointed out that the International Conference, which was held in New York under the auspices of the United Nations, discussed a number of issues relating to the international cooperation as well as reviewing a number of researches on the cyper security.
